It is the first of January and all is GOOD.
New Year's Day denotes the invisible line that separates what was with what we hope will be. We use it like a blackboard eraser. But like a blackboard there is a shadow of what was written. The dust collected in between the tabs of felt that compose its form.
Remember how we used to take them outside and beat them together? Dust cloud rising, filling the air. Drifting over the playground. Do you remember?
Each new year past wafting up through the air as we scratch the next onto the board with a fresh piece of chalk.
